Desktop Toys App Reviews
It does what it says, but the attention to detail (with regard to physics and how all the different toys react to each other … try dropping a basketball on different parts of a keyboard to hear different notes play, for instance) is kind of delightful and just right if you need a minute or two to amuse yourself during a workday.
First the toy box is very ugly Second: the toys disable the screen completely, so you cant have anything to work on while a toy is playing Third: you cant remove a toy from the scene separately without closing everything. Bottom line, I regret buying it.
Editing my original review to comment that Desktop Toys no longer works in Yosemite (for me at least, although I would be interested if it does work for anyone else) *and* it now appears to be abandonware. I can find no way to contact the Developer and clicking either the support link or the Developer’s website links above leads to a page where the domain is for sale. **** original comments **** Further to Milad Gabers review I would say I think the toy box is supposed to look like a random carboard box which a lot of kids would actually have and use as a toybox. That said, an option to have different toy boxes would be a nice addition. I agree that it would be more enjoyable if the toys could continue on the screen while you work in another application. Also, you can remove a single toy by holding the Control Key and dragging a single toy back to the toy box. For me, on a 2.8GHz iMac, it runs smoothly and uses very little memory or CPU. I have been having a lot of fun with this App. I think it is very well done although does have room for improvements. The reactions of the toys are very realistic & the graphics are well done. I downloaded the few available presets from the developers web site and, while you can double-click them to open them I dont see a way to actually add them to Desktop Toys instead of having them as loose files you have to navigate to and then open individually. The ability to easily create your own custom Rube Goldberg Machines is pretty cool.
Cute Idea
I bought this just for fun and I must say its a cute idea. A few of the toys are a little small for me on a 27" screen but most are fine.
horrible!
Waste of money! This app does not even work!
